On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you’ll be welcomed by your guide and set off on the scenic drive to Tarangire (approx. 3 hours). As you leave the bustle behind, the landscape opens into wide savannahs dotted with ancient baobabs.

Arriving at your camp, there’s time to settle in before heading out on your first evening game drive in the private wildlife concession. As the sun sinks low, elephants and antelope often gather at waterholes, while predators stir for the night ahead. Return to camp for dinner and your first night under African skies.

After breakfast, set out with a packed picnic for a full day in Tarangire National Park. This park is famous for its immense baobab trees, rolling golden savannahs, and some of the largest elephant herds in East Africa.

In the dry season, up to 300 elephants gather along the Tarangire River, joined by buffalo, giraffe, zebra, and antelope species unique to this area. Birdlife is spectacular, with more than 500 species recorded. After a day filled with wildlife encounters, return to camp for dinner and overnight.

After an early breakfast, you’ll descend 600 metres onto the floor of the world-renowned Ngorongoro Crater, often described as the “Eighth Wonder of the World.” This unique ecosystem supports a dense concentration of wildlife – lions, black rhino, elephant bulls, flamingos, and countless zebra and wildebeest grazing on the lush plains.

Enjoy a picnic lunch in this extraordinary setting before ascending the crater rim and continuing to Karatu for dinner and overnight at a beautiful lodge.

After breakfast, depart the lodge by 7.30 am for Lake Manyara. Explore this compact but diverse park for around three hours – its alkaline lake attracts thousands of flamingos, while tree-climbing lions, hippos, giraffes, and troops of baboons can often be spotted.

Later, transfer to the Manyara airstrip for your scheduled flight to Seronera, arriving just after midday. Your driver-guide will meet you and you’ll begin game viewing as you make your way through the Serengeti to your central Serengeti camp. After afternoon tea, head out on an evening game drive, returning to camp for dinner under the stars.

This morning, rise early to catch the magic of the Serengeti at first light. Early hours are prime time for big cat activity – lions on the hunt, leopards retreating to trees, and perhaps even a rare glimpse of a black rhino.

Return to camp for lunch and a relaxing break, before heading out again in the afternoon. As the sun sets, enjoy cocktails and canapés with a sweeping view of the savannah, followed by dinner and another peaceful night at camp.

After breakfast, check out and transfer to the airstrip for your flight to Kogatende in the northern Serengeti. Your guide will meet you for a game drive en route to camp.

This northern corner of the Serengeti is a wilderness of rolling hills, rocky outcrops, and the Mara River – famous for the dramatic river crossings during the migration season. Arrive at camp for lunch and a rest, then venture out again for an evening game drive before returning for dinner.

After breakfast, head out in search of elephants, buffalo, giraffes, gazelles, and, in season, the thrilling sight of wildebeest herds on the move.

In the afternoon, set out again to spot predators – lion, leopard, and cheetah – resting in the grasslands or surveying the plains. Birdlife abounds, while elephants roam in impressive numbers. With wildlife everywhere you turn, today is a true Serengeti showcase.

After breakfast, it’s time to bid farewell to the Serengeti. Transfer to the airstrip for your scheduled flight to Kilimanjaro International Airport in Arusha,  where you’ll connect with your onward journey. Depart with unforgettable memories of your Tanzania Northern Highlights safari, and Africa’s wildlife and wilderness.

I’ve now been on four trips with Karen, and they have all been above expectations. My most recent trip was to Tanzania in February with great travelling companions and wonderful experiences especially enjoying the animals in a private conservancy without loads of other people around as well as a terrific day spent in the Ngorongoro Crater. All magic! Silva Bassett, Auckland

Karen you gave us a wonderful safari which we will remember for the rest of our lives. The tour flowed along without any hiccups and your choice of guiding companies could not have been better!  Shayne & Collen Ivory, Auckland
