This exclusive Botswana and Zimbabwe safari is an authentic African experience with all the trimmings – action, adventure and luxury! You’ll explore Botswana’s Okavango Delta and Linyanti wetlands on foot or by mokoro and experience all that the African bush has to offer. Relax on the deck of your wonderful camp in Mana Pools in Zimbabwe and watch the wildlife coming to the Pan to drink, and sit by the elephant pool at your luxury camp in Hwange National Park and watch the elephants come to you. Enjoy game drives in open 4×4 safari vehicles – perfect for wildlife viewing and photography, learn about the ‘small 5’ on walks with our very experienced guides, canoe through the waterways watching as elephants cross your path, and relax after dinner with a nightcap around the campfire  – this journey has it all.

Staying in private concessions means you’ll experience night game drives and guided walks – activities not normally allowed within National Parks. With just 6 tents at each camp you’ll never have to share wildlife encounters with hordes of other vehicles. A portion of the tour price for your Botswana and Zimbabwe safari supports local communities and conservation projects which you will have the opportunity to visit during your safari.

The luxurious tented camps, which are all located in private concessions away from the crowds, have been hand-picked by African Encounters director Karen Platzer. The spacious luxury tents all have en-suite bathrooms and very comfortable beds – this really is ‘camping in style’. Karen will personally escort this safari and she looks forward to sharing some of her favourite places with you.*

This outstanding safari is limited to just 8 guests. Don’t miss your adventure of a lifetime!

Optional extension: A few days at our superb lodge on the banks of the Zambezi River at Victoria Falls is the perfect way to end your safari. It’s located away from the bustle of town but close enough to visit the Falls (a guided tour is included) or do some last-minute shopping. Each spacious room has a private plunge pool and deck overlooking the river, and the meals, staff and boat trips on the river are exceptional. It’s no wonder my guests rave about this stunning lodge and don’t want to leave!

    06 SeptemberMaun, Botswana

Your Botswana and Zimbabwe safari begins with your independent arrival at Maun, Botswana where you will meet your guide and fellow travellers and transfer to your accommodation to relax before your adventure starts tomorrow.

    7 - 9 SeptemberOkavango Delta, Botswana

This morning you will fly to your first camp in the spectacular Okavango Delta. The camp consists of 6 elegant tents perched on wooden decking overlooking the tranquil waters of the lagoon. The Khwai area of the Okavango lies along the northern boundary of the Moremi Game Reserve. This is an unfenced boundary allowing wildlife to move freely between the woodlands in the wet season when water is plentiful and back to permanent rivers and lagoons in the dry season. The Khwai area offers the same wildlife experience as the Reserve with the added advantage of being a private concession which means the ability to do walking safaris and night drives. You’ll spend 3 nights here. Besides the day-time drives which can feature Africa’s big attractions – lion, cheetah, leopard, wild dog, elephant, buffalo, hippo and giraffe – you’ll be able to explore nature after sunset with a night drive. This activity, along with the guided walking safaris, is not usually permitted in the National Parks or Game Reserves and allows you to experience some of Africa’s nocturnal or more elusive animals.

    10 - 12 SeptemberLinyanti Reserve, Botswana

Fly from Khwai north to the Linyanti wetlands where you’ll spend 3 nights in an intimate expeditions camp in a private concession bordering the Chobe National Park. This camp exudes a bygone era and is perfect for safari-goers looking for an authentic African experience – while still enjoying every comfort.

The camp has 6 amazing new tents which offer the unique opportunity to sleep under the stars while in the safety of your luxury tent. At night you are welcomed to the main tented area for a dining extravaganza and drinks around the campfire. Relax between game drives and enjoy the view overlooking the vast Linyanti wetlands.

The Chobe Enclave offers an abundance of wildlife including large herds of elephant and buffalo making for exhilarating walking safaris which are the focus at Linyanti. Here you will also be able to experience superb wildlife sightings by open 4 X 4 vehicle. Our guides at Linyanti are some of the best in the industry. They have grown up with the bush at their back door and have come to know its wildlife well.

13 - 14 SeptemberMana Pools National Park, Zimbabwe

Fly to Kasane and road transfer across the border to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe where you will join your flight north to Mana Pools. Your tented camp is situated within the Mana Pools National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The camp itself overlooks Kanga Pan which is an essential water supply for a multitude of different wildlife and bird species during the dry season. Enjoy the camp’s famous Armchair Safari as you watch the wildlife visiting the Pan for a leisurely drink.
Six traditional canvas tents are placed on a raised wooden deck each with their own exclusive views overlooking the pan. The tents are elegantly designed with subtle wooden furnishings, floor-to-ceiling mesh netting and come with all the essential amenities.
During the rainy season, the pan overflows with water and for this reason the camp is only open from April till December. The camp is situated in a private concession and there are no other safari vehicles. Activities and experiences include walking safaris, morning and afternoon game drives, the famous armchair safaris in the dry season, and a photographic hide for both amateur and professional photographers to enjoy.

    15 - 18 SeptemberHwange National Park, Zimbabwe

Fly south to your camp in Hwange National Park for 4 nights. Your expeditions camp is set in the heart of Hwange National Park, known as the land of the giants for its big elephant herds. It is nestled under an incredible grove of Acacias, along the edge of a seasonal flood plain.
The camp includes a lounge and dining area on raised decking which overlooks a small pool where elephants come to drink. There is also a nearby waterhole, frequently used as a ‘mud-bath’ and a popular rendezvous for the elephants. The up-close encounters and photographic opportunities with these majestic animals are endless.
Consisting of six elegantly furnished Meru Style Tents, each tent has en suite bathroom facilities with an outdoor feel. Activities include guided walks lead by qualified and passionate guides who will share their knowledge and love of the bush with you, game drives and night drives. Wildlife sightings include elephant, kudu, sable antelope, zebra, wildebeest, gemsbok, the rare and endangered roan antelope, buffalo, giraffe, lion, leopard, hyena and many other wildlife species.

19 SeptemberDeparture or Victoria Falls extension

After breakfast fly back to Victoria Falls International Airport where your Botswana and Zimbabwe safari ends. If you are joining Karen on the optional Victoria Falls extension you will transfer to your stunning lodge on the banks of the Zambezi River, a 10-minute drive from Victoria Falls town. Here you’ll enjoy a guided visit to the spectacular Victoria Falls, boat trips on the mighty Zambezi River, and have time for some last-minute shopping in the many craft markets in town.
