Community and conservation form the basis of all our trips, but on this safari you’ll get a real insight on what goes on behind the scenes. Our partners in Zimbabwe work closely with local communities to improve their quality of life and achieve long-term conservation. Donations included in your tour price contribute to programmes which focus on education, conservation and community empowerment. On this immersive safari one of your days at each camp will be spent visiting some the projects in communities bordering the national parks. You’ll visit schools, conservation projects, health clinics as well as community projects such as beading and sewing which allow women to support their families and earn an income from tourism.
You’ll enjoy exceptional wildlife sightings too, in open 4×4 safari vehicles which are perfect for game viewing and photography.
Your accommodation at Lake Kariba is a stunning lodge overlooking this vast man-made lake. On game drives around the lake shore you’ll see elephants, gazelles, warthogs, hippos and many other creatures drinking and playing in the water. As well as game drives you’ll visit a health clinic, schools and learn about the anti-poaching unit.
Your luxury camp in Hwange National Park is one of my favourite camps! With a waterhole right in front of the lounge area you can watch big herds of elephants and other game while enjoying a cold drink on the deck. Hwange is the place to see lions and you’ll get some great sightings while staying here. Community and conservation visits here include a remote school, the Lion Guardian project which helps mitigate human-wildlife conflict by monitoring lion movement, and beading and sewing projects providing income for the community.
For your last stop you’ll cross the border into Zambia to a fabulous lodge on the banks of the mighty Zambezi River. As well as game drives in Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park and joining rangers to track rhinos on foot, you’ll visit a health clinic, a school and the local blacksmith – truly a step back in time!
