Your Zimbabwe & Victoria Falls safari is an authentic African experience with all the trimmings – action, adventure, and luxury! You’ll explore three of Zimbabwe’s finest wilderness areas:

  • Mana Pools and the mighty Zambezi River – a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
  • Lake Kariba, where wildlife moves freely between Matusadona National Park and your private concession.
  • Hwange National Park, with its incredible diversity of wildlife, including 40,000 elephants, and almost 400 species of birds.

You’ll stay in superb accommodation in exclusive safari camps and enjoy wildlife encounters on game drives, as well as walking and boating safaris. Staying several nights in each camp ensures a relaxed journey and plenty of time to explore each of these stunning landscapes and their prolific wildlife.

In Mana Pools, you’ll dine alongside elephants and other wildlife visiting the only water source for many miles. At Lake Kariba, your stunning lodge offers a birds-eye view of this huge lake, and the elephants and other wildlife on the shore. And at your luxury camp in Hwange National Park, you can sit by the pool and watch as elephants, zebra, gazelles, and maybe even big cats come to you. Enjoy game drives in open 4×4 safari vehicles – perfect for wildlife viewing and photography, learn about the ‘small 5’ on walks with our very experienced guides, take boat trips on the Zambezi River and Lake Kariba, and relax after dinner with a nightcap around the campfire under a canopy of stars  – this safari has it all.

Staying in private concessions means you’ll experience night game drives and guided walks – activities not permitted within National Parks. With just 6 tents at each camp, you’ll never have to share wildlife encounters with hordes of other vehicles.

The luxurious tented camps, which are all located in private concessions away from the crowds, have been hand-picked by African Encounters director Karen Platzer. The spacious luxury tents all have en-suite bathrooms and very comfortable beds – your Zimbabwe & Victoria Falls safari really is ‘camping in style’.

End your fabulous safari with two nights at a stunning lodge on the banks of the Zambezi River at Victoria Falls. Visit the spectacular Victoria Falls, enjoy a cruise on the mighty Zambezi, maybe take a last game drive in the Zambezi National Park, and do some last-minute shopping in this bustling small town.

This African Encounters exclusive safari will be personally escorted from Harare, Zimbabwe, by company founder and director Karen Platzer for a group of 4 or more participants. For a group smaller than 4 people the tour will be guided by qualified local guides.

This outstanding safari is limited to just 8 guests – don’t miss your adventure of a lifetime!

Combination: Your Zimbabwe & Victoria Falls safari can be combined with our Magical Malawi safari.

  • Experience a genuine small group safari and exceptional service from our camp teams.
  • You’ll fly between camps, avoiding long dusty road trips, and spend more time enjoying incredible wildlife.
  • You’ll stay in private conservancies away from the crowds and support local communities.
  • Glamping in Africa – these stunning safari camps offer superb comfort under canvas!
  • Enjoy superb photo opportunities in open 4×4 safari vehicles – no packed minibuses for our guests.

Itinerary

Day 1: Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe: Your Zimbabwe & Victoria Falls safari begins with your independent arrival at Victoria Falls International Airport, Zimbabwe where you will meet your fellow travellers.  You will be escorted to your short domestic flight to HwangeNational Park where you will meet your guide and enjoy your first game drive to your accommodation.

Days 2 & 3: Hwange National Park: Designed to replicate the vintage safari camps of a bygone era, this camp offers one of the most authentic ways to experience the exceptional wildlife haven of Hwange National Park. All six Meru-style tents have en-suite bathrooms and in-room charging facilities and the main area includes a lounge and dining room that overlooks a small elephant pool. Huge herds of elephants come to drink from the pool daily, creating exceptional up-close encounters and photo opportunities.
Activities include guided walks led by qualified and passionate guides who will share their knowledge and love of the bush with you, game drives, and night drives. Wildlife sightings include elephant, kudu, sable antelope, zebra, wildebeest, gemsbok, the rare and endangered roan antelope, buffalo, giraffe, lion, leopard, hyena, and many other wildlife species.

Days 4 – 6, Lake Kariba: Fly from Hwange National Park north to where your beautiful lodge is located in an elevated position overlooking the vast expanse of Lake Kariba. The lodge has a total of 10 premium rooms, all with balconies and views over Lake Kariba. Taking centre stage is the beautiful infinity pool that seems to blend into the lake.

Situated on an extensive wildlife conservation area adjacent to Matusadona National Park, this private concession is home to lions, leopards, big herds of elephants and buffalo, as well as a multitude of different plains game. Guests can indulge in superb fishing in the lake waters surrounding the safari lodge with bream and the fighting tiger fish in abundance.

Days 7 – 10, Mana Pools National Park: After breakfast, you’ll take a short flight to your camp in Mana Pools. Set in the most remote part of Mana Pools is the Kanga Pan. This is the only year-round water source in the area, making it a hub for wildlife and a delight to explore on foot. Pristine and undeveloped, this area gives you a pure, unspoilt, private African safari experience. Sightings of leopards and wild dogs are common in this game-rich region. During the dry season, you often don’t even need to leave camp as the game comes to the pan right in front of camp where fresh water is pumped throughout the day. Being the only pan within a 10km radius, this brings the true meaning to an Armchair Safari.

Days 11 & 12, Victoria Falls: After breakfast, you’ll fly back to Victoria Falls and transfer to your stunning lodge on the banks of the Zambezi River, a 10-minute drive from Victoria Falls town, for two nights. This new lodge was so popular with my last group they didn’t want to leave. They all agreed that although it was expensive it was totally worth it and that I had to include it in my programme! Here you’ll enjoy a guided visit to the spectacular Victoria Falls, lunch overlooking the Batoka Gorge below the Falls, boat trips on the mighty Zambezi River, and have time for some last-minute shopping in the many craft markets in town or a last game drive in the Zambezi National Park.

Day 13, Departure. After breakfast transfer to Victoria Falls International Airport where your  Zimbabwe & Victoria Falls safari ends.

Amazing experience above expectations. A chance to see wildlife in their own environment minus the truckloads of tourists. Staff extremely knowledgeable about the animals and their environment.
Impressed with the effort towards sustainability and green environment. Many concessions having Green awards. Need to highlight this more.
Accomodation at each concession was beautifully presented with comfortable beds.
Food and wine excellent, served by friendly staff.
Highly recommend.
