On a mobile safari you’ll experience the breath-taking African wilderness just as early the explorers Livingstone, Speke, and Stanley did. A mobile safari moves to a new location every few days, exploring Africa’s most untouched wilderness areas. It’s back to basics, but with the comforts and conveniences of modern life.
Find out why we love mobile safaris…
A Mobile Safari is an Authentic Adventure
You’ll feel more in touch with the African wilderness on a mobile camping safari. This isn’t just about seeing Africa’s incredible wildlife, it’s about being immersed in nature. It’s hearing the sounds of the night, feeling close to nature, experiencing the wilderness with all the senses – and enjoying delicious food cooked over an open fire!
What is a Mobile Safari?
Instead of moving between permanent camps, your mobile safari camp travels with you. Your experienced camp crew take care of everything – dismantling camp on moving day and setting it up ready to welcome you at your next destination. Spacious full-size Meru-style tents have mesh windows and a shaded seating area to observe passing wildlife or a spectacular sunrise. Each tent has 2 camp beds with mattresses, duvets, pillows and bed linen for a comfortable night after an exciting day. At the rear of each tent is an attached, open-air bathroom with a traditional bucket shower and eco bush toilet. You’ll enjoy drinks around the campfire before a delicious 3-course meal prepared over an open fire by your camp team, and served under a canopy of stars.
No Crowds and a More Intimate Experience
Mobile safari groups are small, usually limited to just 6 – 10 guests, and stay in private conservancies which restrict the number of vehicles allowed. You won’t experience a multitude of vehicles surrounding wildlife here – instead you’ll enjoy exceptional game viewing, and rarely see another soul.
A Mobile Safari has Less Environmental Impact
Mobile safari camps have no permanent structures. Your safari crew take great care to protect the environment while erecting and dismantling your camp. The goal is to leave no trace behind when you move on to your next destination.
Your Guide and Camp Staff Travel with You
A mobile safari offers a wonderful sense of continuity. The same professional guide and camp crew will be with you throughout your journey – a marked difference to the traditional safari itinerary with a different guide in each camp. It’s a much more personal experience as you get to know the team, and your safari is consistently of the same high-quality no matter the location.
Mobile Safaris are More Affordable
Transport costs are reduced by avoiding expensive flights between camp locations, which contribute significantly to the cost of a regular safari. On a mobile safari you drive between camps, game viewing and enjoying cultural experiences along the way. Mobile safari camps also avoid the expensive infrastructure of a permanent camp or lodge.
Make the Most of Your Time
Driving to a new location allows you to enjoy game viewing as well as visiting local communities and conservation projects on your journey, rather than wasting time waiting at the airstrip, flying to your next destination, checking in, arrival briefings, etc.
The Swahili word ‘safari’ means journey, and a fully catered mobile safari is the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation – and really captures the true spirit of safari.
